John Martyn is a big, big, daddy bear
And also a very, uh...interesting singer? I'm not familiar with the guy but I'll post this without any further comment, and thanks to the submitter.

John Martyn is one handsome fella. The song he sings in the video is a little rough around the edges, but his earlier stuff is fantastic. Very folksy and relaxing; almost similar to Nick Drake in some ways. I recommend checking out the video below of his live performance from 1977.

haha no way..i would never have expected to see john martyn on chubarama! he was pretty awesome actually…he kind of lost it in the mid 70s when he went all jazz (which admittedly may be to some peoples tastes) but i heartily recommened picking up his first few records – the tumbler, london conversation – and also the amazing bless the weather. the ‘classic’ record Solid Air, with the title track being about Nick Drake, is not so hot, though decades of music critics seem to disagree with me…he has had a pretty wild life by all accounts. he is a big drinker…an alcoholic…and he even had his leg amputated due to gout as a result of complications relating to his drinking.

I think his best work was with his ex-wife Beverley. The two LP’s “Stormbringer” and “Road to Ruin” are brilliant. Chill-out music before chill-out was invented.

John Martyn is amazing. I’m glad to hear other readers feel the same way. I like to describe him as a jazzier Nick Drake.

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but John Martyn died this morning. It’s was announced on his website and on the BBC website, so it’s not false information. I’m so fucking upset, I loved John. He was only 60 as well. Cause of death hasn’t been announced yet.

Yep. Very very sad news, the guy was a genius.
He was a pretty hardcore drinker, so I’m sure that had something to do with it.

Wow, quite amazing this was posted just before his death.
